More To Look At
The main floor of the house is entered through a door under the porte cochere. One enters into a two story circular library with a lantern-like window that lets light filter down through two floors. The entire interior is sheathed in yellow pine and mahogany trim with whitewashed accents and ceilings. The rooms are arranged on the valley view side of the main angled crossing hallway. The hallway widens towards the kitchen, living and dining rooms and narrows towards the master bedroom suite, which has its own full bath and french door balconies. The angled hallway conceals a powder room, window seats, a small desk and storage/linen closets.
Wrapping around the curved wall of the central library is a stair leading to the second floor. The second floor imitates the layout of the first with a similar hallway and rooms on the view side. At the top of the curved stairs is a guest bedroom with two twin beds. The balconied opening that looks down from the book stacks to the main floor library is the center of attention.
The kitchen is large with electric appliances, pantry and pass-through to the living/dining room. A wall of windows makes a great eat-in space. Stepping down into the living/dining room, the vaulted ceiling, fireplace and windows are spectacular. A series of french doors opens onto a large raised deck with bordering gardens that commands a view of the meadow below the house and the valley beyond.
Opposite this opening is the "temple" room that bridges the driveway forming the porte cochere. Designed as either a studio or children's bedroom, this room has windows on three walls and opens through french doors onto the upper lawn. At the wide end of the corridor is a full bath which serves the bedroom at the top of the stairs and the large "bunkroom" over the living room which is capable of sleeping a small family with two queen-sized beds.
In total there are five bedrooms. One master suite with two twin beds and a full bath on the first floor. Additionally there is a powder room on the first floor. On the second floor there is a guest room with two twin beds, as well a bunkroom with two queen beds. These share a full bath with double vanities, toilet, tub with shower. Upstairs in the study or porte cochere room, there are two full futon beds. Finally there is a guest bed suite with two twin beds as well as a full bath.
This is a home architecturally sensitive to its surroundings, designed to take in the views of the meadows and forests and built as a family compound getaway in the heart of the Catskills. A family dog is welcome as part of your vacation, but must be kept downstairs.
